A Story.

An epic story  Story of my Grandfather..

: M.Balaramaiah Shetty.
..
He is the grandson of a Zamindar,  (Makthal   Taluk, Raichur district, Telangana state), who had 100s of acres of land, kilograms of gold, and also many businesses. The Zamindar could provide loans to neighbouring small kings (Dhoras). At that time, the Nizams were ruling in Telangana.
..
The zamindar had only one son who was born after several years of his marriage. When his son was eight years old, the Zamindar passed away.
As his son was too young, their closest relatives planned and cheated him to loot all the property, money and gold what the young boy had. And finally they did it. The Zamindar’s wife was unable to fight with them, and did nothing. Finally, his wife and son were left with only a house and seven acres of land. They gave this bit of land to a tenant, so that he will be offering part of the yield to them.

The Zamindar’s son almost led his life like a king's son for twenty years, then he got married. At the time, he had no work. In very hard situations, i.e, especially in need of money he had to sell some of things in his home and get the money to survive.
Very soon they had a son in 1940, the one who is the main character in the remaining part of the story ( M. Balaramiah shetty). As soon as he was born, within five months his mother left this world. After that, the family was in a worse situation, they totally lost everything except that land.
So, his father started working as a wage worker in a mill, to meet their family needs.
The boy's Grandma had put many conditions on his grandson, like if you bring 10 baskets of cow dung then only you can have food or else no food that day. She also forced him to do labour work for money. The family led a very difficult life those days. Meanwhile, the boy very hardly completed his 10th standard. And, on his tenth’s basis, he was selected for a teaching job and a conductor’s job as well.
But he did not choose his path due to his fathers request. His father said that, who will be looking after me if you go away to do a teacher’s job. He also ordered him that, do whatever you want to do being with me. So he was searching for work within his home premises.

When he was 21 years old (1962), both his grandmother and his father, one after another, left the world due to chronic ill health. And at that moment, no one was there to take care of him, to feed him, and he was the only one left in his home.
No rupee was left with him. He was in a very poor condition. He had to cook for himself, and had to see the next morning just by feeding his stomach with half a meal in the preceding night.
As a consequence, to feed himself,(1962-1964),he started to work all day. He worked as a coolie to carry weighted bags at a bus stop, went down the street carrying a basket to sell rotis and salt, and also sold ice creams and many other food items, etc. on a commission basis. He took almost every single opportunity that came in his path, which payed him money. And there is almost no job that he didn't do in his village.

He got married in 1964 with his cousin sister. At that time, his mode of income was from being an agent for newspapers, magazines and giving tuitions to children from one of the rich families in the village. He had started an agency of magazines called Chandamama with just five rupees and developed it. Out of his earnings, he invested his money to buy a current motor agency.
Whatever money he got as an agent, he sent a part of it to his mother-in-law. Although he worked for the whole day, he saved nothing. He was blindly fixed on doing work and getting money, he wasn’t calm even for a single day.
A man who was working in a substation as a lineman in the village lived along with him in his house by paying a little rent. With his grace, he learnt about house wiring and current motor repairing work. And then onwards, he started doing house wiring and motor repairing work by travelling to all the nearby villages. He used to go to all the nearby villages on bicycle, and sometimes barefoot. Most of the time, the people he worked for did not pay him.
In 1970, his children were growing, and his expenses increased. So, the land that he had given to tenants before, he took it back, learnt farming, and started ploughing.
He earned a little more amount of money while repairing current motors in nearby fields. So, he took a daring step to run a theatre in the village around 1979 on a rent basis. It did not give him much returns, and it also made a big loss for him. So, he stopped it within two years. As soon as he left running the theatre, he started investing in business (fertilizers) at his home. He marketed them very well as he used to go to all nearby villages for current motor repairing.
Finally, close people suggested him that it is better to have merchandise in the market, and that will benefit him a lot. So, he kept it by facing a lot of struggles and obstacles, in a rented portion.  He also kept his wife’s jewellery in bank and took a loan for investment purposes.
At this moment, although he was owning a shop, he didn't have enough money for his daughter's marriage. He used all his savings for his daughter’s marriage.
After more than twenty years, with all his skill set, he made his business into a crore turnover. And in this big journey of making a crore revenue business, his big supporters were his wife and his sons.
His qualities are that he is a workaholic person, and he never cheated anyone.

Lessons we can learn from his story are:
He proved that even a tenth passed student can make a crore turnover business.
There is no guarantee that if grandparents were rich, their grandchildren are definitely going to lead a rich life. Because who knows, what happens the next tiny second.  Everyone is accountable for their own way of living.
He has got a good name and fame as he helped a lot of people.
If you start doing work and striving for something, opportunities will definitely come along the way like a boon to solve the problems.
